Basic overview
The Spanish can utilize minor natives quite well, because they can more easily afford the cards used to support them. In addition, they are a crossbow civilization - and some ranged infantry minor natives can do better in age 2 at dealing with heavy infantry.

Although historically the Spanish conquered the Incans, the Incan road building technology can aid the Spanish greatly. The technology is deadly already with the Huaminca units, but when used by Spanish Rodeleros in addition to the advanced arsenal speed boost technology, it gives Rodeleros enough speed to rival cavalry units. That means they can catch them and kill them far more easily. |

I already mentioned the Mapuche mercenary strategy, and although this option is open to any European or Asian civilization, it is particularly open to the Spanish because of their civilization bonus. The dance hall card allows you to build powerful Ronin units at Saloons, and you can lower the price of those Ronin with the Mapuche Ad-mapu technology - in addition to granting them 50% extra siege. Lancers are also more capable than standard cavalry of beating the ranged infantry counters to your Ronin, or alternatively you could use the now-cheaper Falconets. |

The Navajo already have a decent line of sight with stealth capabilities - but you can increase that even further with the Spanish Inquisition card, which grants them 10 more line of sight (and 2 more on top of that if you research the church upgrade). Now it is even easier to see what your opponent is up to without them having a clue. Although you could use spies to fill this purpose as well, the Navajo can do much more immediate damage to any exposed villagers that your opponent has. |
