Basic overview
The
Klamath allow you to produce train Klamath Rifleman. They also give access to a
variety of technologies; one improves the gather rates for all resources,
another improves the damage that Klamath Rifleman do, and the last gives a
progressively increasing amount of food crates - depending on how long you delay
researching this technology. You can have 13 Rifleman for every Klamath trading
post that you hold, and out of the standard maps, California is the only
one where they make an appearance.
The unit – Klamath Rifleman
The Klamath Rifleman is a ranged infantry unit, and with the exception of its name (and its appearance), it is exactly identical to a unit that this guide has already looked over.

Analysis
The
Klamath Rifleman is effectively a clone of the Cherokee Rifleman, so the same
rules apply. It is more expensive than the standard ranged infantry units, but it
can take a lot more damage - and compared to the Crossbowman it does more damage
to heavy infantry units. The one significant difference between the Cherokee
Rifleman and the Klamath Rifleman is that the Klamath have access to a
technology that increases the damage that Klamath Riflemen can do, so keep that in mind.
Technology
Klamath Huckleberry Feast
Cost: 150 wood, 150 coin
Effect: Ships 100 food for every 3 minutes
of the game (maxes at 30 minutes)
Comments: Food gathers faster generally then either wood or coin - and it takes time to gather those crates too - so this technology doesn’t pay off as quickly as say the Huron technology does. It might take until about 15-21 minutes into the game until this becomes cost effective. However, it can be useful to consider if you are in need of food and have too much wood and coin, rather than buying and selling at the market. It is unusual however because most technologies such as this one give 1 extra crate for every 2 minutes. It oddly doesn’t apply here, but this technology is slightly cheaper in compensation.
Klamath Work Ethos
Cost: 100 food, 100 wood, 100 coin
Effect: Villagers gather all resources 5%
faster
Comments: Rather cheap and very cost effective, it won’t take long for it to pay for itself. It is particularly effective with civilizations that can get a large amount of villagers in a short time span.
Klamath Strategy (age 3)
Cost: 200 wood, 150 coin
Effect: Klamath Rifleman attack increases
by 25%
Comments: A no-brainer technology if you are already using the Klamath, which you should be if you built this trading post - but it is only available in age 3.
Summary
The Klamath might not be economically able as the Cherokee, but Klamath Strategy in age 3 makes the Klamath Rifleman significantly stronger than most other types of ranged infantry - even more so if you have any native cards invested into the Klamath.
However, the only standard map they appear on is California. Sometimes you can’t even build on the Klamath trading post, because the build obstruction radius of your opponent's starting Town Center stops you from doing so. If the Klamath are on your side of the map, and your civilization has difficulty against heavy infantry, then the Klamath might be worth a thought.
