Back to list of civilizations

Basic overview

Although they don’t have as many native cards as the French do, the Iroquois still have the fortress age 25%+ attack and HP card. The Iroquois are a rather well-rounded civilization, and can access their units rather easily with the age up travois providing them a free building. That can remove a reason to choose to ally with the minor natives; however, it is still worth considering using the cost effective upgrade cards.

Although the units themselves are rather poor, the technologies are rather good - especially for the Iroquois. The ability to improve War Chief hit points is invaluable to the Iroquois. Added to which, the Udasi usually appear with more capable minor natives, which you can invest cards into making the Chakram units slightly more worthwhile. They can also provide you with farm and plantation gathering rate upgrades, so you can keep up and possibly get an edge in the late game.

Although the Kanya Horseman is a strong unit, the Cheyenne can be more useful once Cheyenne Fury is researched. Added to which, because Aennas cost entirely food and other Iroquois units have high food costs, you may find your economy stretched for food. The Cheyenne hunting grounds technology allows you to hold out for much longer to either get you to the fortress age, or to support Aennas for a little bit longer. The Cheyenne having a high wood cost is slightly easier for the Iroquois to deal with, because they have a large amount of market upgrades for wood gathering open to them - and this reduces the stress on an Iroquois hunt supply.

Once again, the Tiger Claws can stand in for Kanya Horsemen if you wish - and they do appear together with the Udasi quite often. You can thus use both of these natives together and pursue a native- based strategy in the mid to latter parts of the game, although the Bhakti benefits can also help you immediately in age 2. Like Cheyenne Hunting Grounds, the Vegetarianism technology can help you support the heavy food costs of the Iroquois.
