Basic overview
The German civilization doesn’t really get any significant bonuses when it comes to using minor natives, and their shipment penalty in exchange for Uhlans does tend to mean they are slightly disadvantaged in supporting their native units. However, that isn’t to say they shouldn’t use them. Like Spain they are a Crossbow civilization, and can use the ranged infantry minor natives as a decent substitute to those.

Both the Klamath and Cherokee offer Rifleman as a substitute to the German crossbow if heavy infantry becomes too much of a problem and the less-specialized Crossbow is proving ineffective. In addition, both tribes offer economic improvements which can support a more economic strategy if the German player chooses to play that way. |

The Germans as of age 2 get free Uhlans with every shipment they receive, which means in every game they will be using cavalry units. The Comanche offer significant improvement to cavalry units, and the fact you know you are getting them (like it or not) would mean that improving these units you are always going to get may be a good idea. |

Of course, being a European civilization, the mercenary choice once again is open to the Germans - but there are other uses the Mapuche can offer them. A lot of German units have high coin costs, such as Uhlans, War Wagons and Doppelsoldners. Getting the Mapuche Ad-mapu technology will make those units cheaper, and once again you can improve the amount of siege your Doppelsoldners can do. Don't forget either that later on in the game you can ship a few coin crates if you are having some financial problems. |
