Back to list of civilizations

Basic overview

The French are definitely the most well-known civilization for using the minor natives, due to the large amount of cards they have available. However, outside of this obvious advantage there are other benefits the French can get, such as upgrading their powerful cavalry units. Once again the French are a crossbow civilization, so the same rules apply as far as considering the use of ranged infantry natives against heavy infantry as opposed to crossbows.

The Nootka can improve villager hit points. Considering that the French already have strong villagers, the Nootka allow you to gain from this benefit even more - as a result making the French villagers more resistant to raids or alternatively better at being used in battle.

The French cards make a big difference here. Apache are strong on their own as it is, but when combined with the French cards they are lethal. They have a lot of cavalry and native cards, and all of these can be applied to the Apache. This can mean they are even more efficient at killing villagers in age 3. Even in age 2 they can prove useful when few other civilizations have ranged cavalry units available.

As for most civilizations when using minor natives, hand cavalry- type minor natives tend to be slightly easier to use, because your barracks can provide all the infantry units while the minor natives supply your cavalry- like units. The Shaolin are no exception in this respect. The Shaolin normally can already be improved with a technology, but this again can be aided even further by French native cards, and the Shaolin wood cutting and assistant to Musketeer hand attack can be utilized by the French as well.
