Back to list of civilizations

Basic overview

The British are a reasonably good civilization for using minor natives, because they can afford the slightly costly downsides more easily due to having a stronger economy, and can use that economy to get certain minor native bonuses that will aid them for the rest of the game. So, any native that offers an economic boost can be rather strong.

However, as of the current state of balance, the British don’t have significant problems with their units. The only issue is that heavy infantry in some cases can prove problematic early on, due to the Longbowman set up animation and lower multiplier against heavy infantry - which as a result means that they perform better in the middle and latter stages of the game. So, if defeating heavy infantry is problematic for you as the British in the early stages of the game, any ranged infantry minor natives can be very helpful.

I list both of these because they have two things in common; a cheaper building technology and ranged infantry minor natives. The cheaper buildings technology can be used to make manor houses significantly cheapler. Don't forget that the British age up a politician gives them 200 coin and an outpost; you can use that coin to pay for the Cree/Tupi upgrade. The Tupi can also improve the damage your Longbowmen can do.

The Cherokee boom was explained in the section before. The British in particular can benefit significantly from it because their economy can grow very fast, and once again they have ranged infantry minor natives on offer. The Cherokee can allow the already strong British boom to become even more powerful, but there is even more investment than usual - so be careful you aren’t overwhelmed by military as you are trying to build up an overwhelming economy.

Longbows can be a very strong unit in the middle and latter parts of the game. The technologies the Carib have to offer can improve Longbows significantly, and they can even allow them to raid decently with the attack increase against villagers. The Seminole also offer a rather large increase in Longbow attack, so if you have a few Longbowmen consider using either of these natives to improve them even further.
